Build a Road Task
How long road model can I build?
Answer: There are a few limitations, but the actual length are non of them. The limitations comes down to the number of cross-sections or the number of elements on your alignment.
30000 cross-sections
2500 horizontal elements on the alignment geometry
What affects the calculation time for my road task?
Answer: There are a couple of different factors affecting the calculation time for any given road task:
Total number of cross-sections (which is why we don't allow you to build an infinite amount of cross-sections)
Amount of data in each cross-section (number of features, and total number of points to process). This can be controlled by adjusting the
Calculation Basis
Illustration Objects
Search width
Level of detail on the terrain and subsurface layers (when joining the cut/fill solids)
Overlapping cross-sections (in tight corners or in intersection areas)
Terrain and subsurface layers that are not defined good enough so that they vary which one is on top for each section
It will make cut-solids with potentially thousands of holes which takes time to process.
Note: When considering if your model is slow or not, please evaluate the process info to determine if it is the gathering and building of cross-sections or the 3D production that is of concern.
Road calculation is updating alignments during build when it shouldn't
Answer: The road model is building with dynamic alignments.
Turn this off in the settings: Design > Settings > Elements > Update dynamic alignments
Road model builds multiple times instead of once
Answer: The road model is building with dynamic alignments.
Turn this off in the settings: Design > Settings > Elements > Update dynamic alignments
Note: From Novapoint 2020 it will detect if any Line tasks should be updated, and if not, turn off the setting automatically.
Road calculation produces 30000 errors when calculating
Answer:
Has the road model a defined surface description?
Has the road model a defined terrain for any cross-sections?
Road model will not build past Step 1 and crashes
Answer: Sometimes the level of data in the calculation records overflow. This might stop the calculation. The reason could be detailed data and/or a big search width producing alot of data. Try to simplify the terrain or use a narrower search width.
In some cases the Landscaping description trips when not have a starting surface defined in it's “Start surface”-description.
Novapoint shuts down when trying to build roadmodel. Is there any way to solve this problem?
Answer: This is a possible Workaround: If you right-click on Road task and select Edit task, you can go to Settings under the Design tab. Here you can uncheck Create Solids.
In any case, contact your Novapoint Support channel so that we can solve the issue properly.
