Cross-Section Data
You can calculate the center of gravity, area, and moment of inertia of the desired cross-section of the bridge/structure with this tool. The cross-section must be drawn with closed polylines. The outer contours should be drawn counter-clockwise and the inner contours (holes) should be drawn clockwise.
Find the function here:
Ribbon: Bridge > Tools Cross-Section Data
The results from the calculation will be written in a Text file. Give a name to the text file and specify its location in the dialog box, which pops up when the tool is activated.
Command prompts for:
Select a local origin for the cross-section - Center of Gravity (CG) is calculated and represented with respect to a reference point. Pick that reference point.
Select Objects - Select the polylines (outer and inner), which define the section for which Centre of Gravity, Moment of Inertia, Area are to be calculated. Finish selection with the key Return or the Right button of the mouse.
The above command prompts repeat. You can calculate C.G., M.I., and Area for any no. of sections. After you have finished calculations for all desired sections, press ESC or Return or Right button of the mouse to exit the tool.
A point will be inserted in the selected section, which indicates the Centre of Gravity resulted from the calculations.
The results will be written to the file specified and the same will be displayed at command prompts as shown below.
