Coordinate Transformation
How do I transform a calculated alignment between coordinate systems?
Answer: This can be done in the Alignment Design dialog via 'Tools > Coordinate transformation'.
Why does my alignments become jagged when transforming a Quadrimodel between different coordinate systems?
Answer: This is because a geometric line, like an alignment, need to fit 100% if the should look good. A transformation will shift the points of the curves and straights slightly so they are no longer tangent in the points between the different elements. In many cases the alignment will no longer be properly defined, and you may see strange results.
To solve this you do as follows:
Open the alignment in Alignment Design
Go to the Tools menu and start the Coordinate transformation function
Set the from-to coordinate system to use and transform the alignment
Save the alignment with OK - Draw
NOTE: This only works for coordinate transformed alignments that has previously been used in our Novapoint Alignment Design tool as it stores extra geometry data to the task.
How can I transform a road model between coordinate systems?
Answer: When doing a coordinate transformation of a Quadri modeo, then the results of a roadtask/model will be transformed. Note that a road model design is related to an alignment, and any recalculation of a roadtask/model is dependent on the alignment to be in the correct position.
Note: Be aware that the chainage could be shifted slightly. This depends on the coordinate systems that is used in the transformation. This can also affect chainages in the start/end of alignments added through 'Alignments as Surface Edge' or other parts of the description that no longer match. This could result in errors or warnings in the calculation.
How do I import a road model from another project that needs coordinate transformation to fit the new project?
Answer: This must be done in multiple steps.
Create a project in the new coordinate system
Import the road model files with only the alignments (check import settings) since you probably already have terrain etc.
Don't do a coordinate transformation as part of the import.
We need the alignment without any strange artifacts or shifting that a coordinate transformation of alignments in Quadri can give.
Go into the Alignment Design dialog and do the coordinatetransformation there via 'Tools > Coordinate transformation'.
This only transforms the horizontal and not the vertical.
Chainage may shift a bit because of the differences in coordinate systems, and vertical may also be changed accordingly
Add the road model through the “From Existing Model” template
Build the road task with the transformed alignment (you need a terrain surface to be able to build)
